Members of Grace International Church in Woonsocket collected food for 19 Thanksgiving Day baskets for families living in the Woonsocket Shelter, helping to ensure these families are well-supplied for the holiday. We greatly appreciate their support!
Many thanks to the United Way of RI's Young Leader's Circle and supporters from Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage for coordinating the Holiday Basic Needs Drive that provided over 2,000 items (personal care products, clothing, pillows, diapers and more) for families in need. Squadlocker donated most of the clothing and mattress pads; other companies that donated were Bank of America-Lincoln Call Center, Envision Technology Advisors, Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co., and Nalari Health.
A volunteer team from Gilbane, Inc., pictured with FRCA staff, prepared the entire meal for the FRCA's Youth Center Thanksgiving dinner. Over 75 youth attended the dinner, and enough food was prepared for youth to take leftovers home to their families. FRCA thanks all the volunteers for their time and generosity!
Also thanks to the Woonsocket Rotary for making the holidays special for families living in the Woonsocket Shelter, and to volunteers at Beacon Charter High School for organizing canned food drives.
On December 6th, 12 employees from Swarovski Company in Cranston donated their time to assist with Toy Distribution. Their energy and spirt helped to make it an enjoyable experience for all who came. FRCA thanks Swarvoski Company for their time.
Thanks to the volunteer team from Catholic Heart Work Camp who worked to spruce up the Woonsocket Homeless Shelter. This dedicated group of volunteers did a thorough cleaning of the shelter buildings and painted many of the interior areas that were in much need of a fresh coat of paint. FRCA greatly appreciates the support of this group that has completed similar projects in the past to help the Northern RI Visitation Center.
Cindy Roy has been a loyal and committed volunteer of
Family Resources for the past 9 years. Cindy volunteers across the agency for various programs including Adopt-A-Family, Holiday Programs, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and also provides general administrative support to the agency. Thank you Cindy; we are so genuinely grateful for your service!
Since December of 2009, The Agape Center has been fortunate to have the volunteer services of Tom Hannah. Tom is a most valuable volunteer to Agape as he always makes himself available to help with the food deliveries, stocking shelves, distributing food and helping to shop. Regardless of the task or project at hand, Tom can be counted on to pitch in and help out. We greatly appreciate all that Tom has done and continues to do to support FRCA’s Agape Center.

Steve Sheeky began volunteering with the GrowUp Community Garden during our 2011 season. As a Woonsocket resident and new graduate of the URI Master Gardener Program, Steve responded to a request for assistance for garden coordination. Steve volunteered 30-40 hours a week last season, providing guidance to youth enrolled in Family Resources’ summer youth employment program GrowUp! garden placement. He also served as the Volunteer Garden Coordinator and all-around garden guru for the 2012 season. Steve, we sincerely thank you for assisting with the GrowUp! Community Garden.
