Stepping Up is a health care career ladders program that offers a career exploration course to prepare individuals for careers in the health care industry starting in entry-level positions and advancing to credentialed high-growth, high-demand careers within hospitals. The 12 week program provides an opportunity for individuals to learn about careers in health care, participate in an internship experience and receive job readiness and placement assistance. DHS & DLT approved.
The program includes six weeks of classroom training followed by a six-week internship. Classes will be held Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at FRCA's Employment & Training Center, 55 Main Street Woonsocket. Class content includes:
- Health care career exploration
- Medical terminology
- CPR certification
- Bloodborne pathogens certification
- Job readiness
- Basic work skills
- Resume & cover letter preparation

TEAMhealth2 (Train, Employ, Advance, Mentor) is a Certified Nursing Assistant training and Career Laddering Program with concurrent trainings in allied health professions. Career Laddering opportunities include CNA II, Certified Medication Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Registered Nurses. Trainings for allied professions include Home Makers, Medical Billing, and Medical Office Assistant. The program follows the model practices of the National Fund for Workforce Solutions by providing strong assessments, job readiness, case management, and employer development activities through collaborations with an array of training and employer partners.
In order to be considered for this class you must attend one of our weekly informational sessions. Information sessions are held every Wednesday at 3pm at FRCA's Employment & Training Center, 55 Main Street, Woonsocket. No pre-registration is required, simply walk-in.

This three week training provides hands-on instruction and prepares individuals for careers as a Homemaker. Program content covers:
- Job Readiness Instructions, including Customer Service Certification & More for Your Money training
- Companionship Caregiving training
- Infection Control
- Shopping and Errand Service
- Meal Preparation
- Respite Care
- Clinical Rotation, completion of five hours
Program Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old or older
- Pass a BCI (Criminal Background Check)
- Pass a TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) at a 5th grade level
- Must have a car
- Must have a valid Driver's License
- Authorized to work in the United States
Program Requirements After Graduation
- Be willing to work as a Homemaker for at least one year
- Be willing to be tracked by a Case Manager
All graduates are eliglble to apply for CNA Training after a minimum of six months employed as a Homemaker.

- Must be at least 18 years old or older
- Authorized to work in the United States

The On-the-Job Training (OJT) program serves RI Works recipients from northern Rhode Island, primarily the greater Woonsocket area. The goal of the program is to help eligible individuals obtain and retain employment leading to economic self-sufficiency, and to assist employers with finding and keeping qualified employees.
Employers hire candidates, and then provide training for the employees for at least two weeks and no more than six months. Benefits to employers include:
- Referral of qualified, screened applicants
- 50% wage reimbursement during training period
- Tax Credits from $2,400 - $9,000 (up to 2 years)
- On-site job coaching
- Community resources for current employees
Trainees participate in a three week work-readiness program that includes topics such as:
- Employer/Employee Expectations
- Workplace Etiquette
- Conflict Resolution
- Time Management
- Workplace Ethics
Participants work with the FRCA Assessment Specialist to review their strengths, interests, skills and challenges so they are matched with the best employment opportunity and receive the support they need to ensure work success. Participants that complete the training with satisfactory ratings are expected to be retained by the employer.
